The levadas of Madeira are more than just water channels; they are arteries connecting the wet north to the dry south. With Emerald Vein, I wanted to capture the claustrophobic beauty of the ravines they traverse. By creating a composition dominated by deep greens and diffused light, I aimed to reconstruct the specific humidity and silence of a place where water has carved a path through stone over millennia.
